SEVILLE OVERVIEW

Seville is the capital of Andalusia, a region of Southern Spain. It is situated on the plain of the River Guadalquivir, with an average elevation of 7 metres above sea level.

Seville is the fourth largest metropolitan area of Spain. Seville was a Romans province and later it was captured by Moors in 712. The city retains many Moorish features, including large sections of the city wall. The Great Plague of Seville in 1649 reduced the population by almost half. Seville is the city that better represents the 'real Spain': the siesta transforms in a desert the city, you can dance the Sevillanas (the original Seville flamenco) and you can find great tapas.

NO8DO is the city motto that you can find everywhere, on monuments, taxi, bus and on the caps of the municipal water system too. 'No madeja do' and it sounds like 'No me ha dejado', which means 'It [Seville] has not abandoned me'. This motto has a legend behind: it tells about the fidelity of the Sevillanos to the king Alfonso X after the reconquest of the city from the Muslims.
