IBIZA OVERVIEW

Ibiza is the third largest of the Balearic Islands, an autonomous community of Spain, along with Majorca, Minorca and Formentera, in the Mediterranean Sea about 80 km off the spanish coast.

The largest city is the homonym Ibiza town.

The Greeks called Ibiza and Formentera the Islas Pitiusas (Islands of Pine Trees). Eivissa is the official Catalan name. Birthplace of the rave, Ibiza is home to some of Spain’s most famous clubs.

The Spanish Tourist Office have been working to shed the prevailing "sex-and-alcohol" image in order to promote more family-oriented tourism.

Even if the most famous parts of the island of Ibiza are the crowded beaches, exist a rural part, rocky and covered by thick woods, less turistic and more quite.

Almost all the beaches of Ibiza in summer, are invaded by hundreds of tourists and it's difficult to find a solitary beach. Besides, large portions of the island of Ibiza are registered as World Heritage Sites, and thus protected from the development and commercialization of the main cities.
